What makes a good voiceover script?
A good voiceover script is short, written for the ear and built around one message. It uses everyday words, sentences of 8 to 15 words, and a clear ending that tells the listener what to do next. Read it out loud once before you record. If you run out of breath or trip over a phrase, the AI voice will sound stiff in the same spot.
The templates below follow that rule. Text in [brackets] is yours to replace. Keep the shape, swap the details, and you have a script that fits your video length without guesswork.
How many words fit in 15, 30 and 60 seconds?
Most voiceover is read at 140–160 words per minute. Use this table to size your script before you generate it.
| Video length | Relaxed pace (130 wpm) | Standard pace (150 wpm) | Fast pace (170 wpm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds | 30–33 words | 35–38 words | 40–43 words |
| 30 seconds | 63–66 words | 72–75 words | 80–85 words |
| 60 seconds | 125–130 words | 145–150 words | 165–170 words |
| 2 minutes | 255–260 words | 290–300 words | 330–340 words |
| 5 minutes | 640–650 words | 740–750 words | 840–850 words |
Leave 1–2 seconds of silence at the start and end of a video, so trim 3–5 words from each figure. For a quick estimate, try the voiceover length calculator.

- 1. Product launch (about 30 s, 62 words)
Meet [TrailLite], the backpack that weighs less than your water bottle. It holds a laptop, a jacket and lunch, and it still packs flat into a carry-on. The fabric shrugs off rain, and the zippers lock so nothing slips out on the subway. It comes in four colors and ships free across the U.S. Order yours today at [traillite dot com].
- 2. Feature walkthrough (about 55 s, 131 words)
Here’s how [the Brewly cold brew maker] works. Step one: add coarse ground coffee to the filter. Step two: pour in cold water up to the line. Step three: put it in the fridge and walk away. Twelve hours later, you have smooth, low-acid coffee for the whole week. The filter is fine mesh steel, so there are no paper filters to buy. The pitcher is glass, so it won’t hold old flavors. And the lid seals tight, so it fits on the door shelf without dripping. One pitcher makes about eight servings. Clean-up takes under a minute: rinse the filter, rinse the pitcher, done. If you spend five dollars a day at the coffee shop, this pays for itself in about a week. [Brewly]. Better coffee, made while you sleep.
- 3. Sale or promo (15 s, 33 words)
