1. Purpose and scope
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) is part of the Speechma Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses speechma.com, our Android app or the Speechma API, and it covers everything you submit (“Inputs”), everything the Service creates for you (“Outputs”), and how you use those Outputs after you download them, wherever they are published.
The rules apply to every tool, including Text to Speech, AI voices, Voice Cloning, Voice Design, Voice Changer, AI Dubbing, Speech to Text, and the Music Studio (music, sound effects, songs, lyrics, vocal separation and AI voice covers). Our AI Voice & Cloning Policy adds more detailed rules for tools that reproduce or transform a voice.
If you are unsure whether a use is allowed, ask before you create it by emailing contact@speechma.com.
2. What you are welcome to do
The vast majority of people use Speechma for creative, educational, accessibility and business purposes, and that is exactly what it is for. Examples include:
- narrating YouTube videos, TikToks, explainers, ads and product demos;
- producing audiobooks, podcasts, lessons, training courses and presentations;
- listening to articles and documents read aloud, or creating accessible audio versions of your content;
- recording phone greetings and IVR prompts for your own business;
- cloning your own voice, or a voice you have clear permission to use, to save recording time;
- designing original character voices for games, animation and stories;
- dubbing your own videos into other languages and transcribing your own recordings; and
- creating original music, songs and sound effects for your projects.
You may use your Outputs commercially, subject to this AUP and the rights of others.
3. Impersonation, fraud and deception
You may not use the Service to deceive people about who is speaking or what really happened. In particular, you may not:
- impersonate any real person, company, government agency or organization, or falsely suggest an affiliation with or endorsement by them;
- clone, imitate or transform the voice of any real person without their clear, informed consent, including celebrities, public figures, influencers, politicians, coworkers, friends or family members;
- create “deepfakes” of real people, meaning realistic audio or video that makes it appear a real person said or did something they did not, without that person’s consent;
- commit or assist fraud, scams, phishing, “vishing,” extortion or social engineering, such as fake emergency calls from a “relative,” fake bank or tax agency calls, or voice messages used to authorize payments;
- bypass or attempt to bypass voice-based authentication or identity verification systems; or
- create fake reviews, testimonials or endorsements, or misrepresent AI-generated audio as a genuine recording in a way that misleads listeners.
4. Elections, civic processes and public safety
You may not use the Service to:
- create or spread false or misleading information about elections, voting procedures, eligibility, polling places, dates or results;
- imitate candidates, election officials, government officials or political parties, or create synthetic audio of them, whether as a parody that could be mistaken for real or otherwise;
- discourage or intimidate people from voting or participating in a census or other civic process;
- run political robocalls or automated political messaging using AI-generated voices; or
- create false emergency alerts, public safety warnings or health misinformation likely to cause harm.
5. Harassment, hate and harmful content
You may not use the Service to create or distribute content that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens, intimidates, stalks or doxxes any person;
- defames a real person or makes false statements of fact about them;
- promotes violence, terrorism or violent extremism, or praises or glorifies people or groups that commit them;
- attacks or dehumanizes people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, disability, disease, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or veteran status;
- encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders; or
- gives instructions for making weapons capable of mass harm or for committing serious crimes.
6. Sexual content, minors and privacy
- Minors: you may never create, upload or distribute any content that sexualizes, exploits or endangers minors. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement as required by law.
- Real people: you may not create sexual or intimate content involving a real, identifiable person, including using their cloned or imitated voice, without their explicit consent, and never involving a person under 18.
- Explicit content generally: the Service is not designed for creating sexually explicit material, and we may refuse or restrict such requests.
- Privacy: you may not use the Service to secretly record, transcribe or process other people’s private conversations in violation of wiretapping or eavesdropping laws, or to collect or expose personal information about others without a lawful basis.
7. Illegal content and intellectual property
You may not use the Service to create, upload or distribute content that is illegal where you are or where it is distributed, or to promote or facilitate illegal activity, including the sale of illegal drugs, weapons or stolen goods, money laundering or human trafficking.
You may not upload or process content that you do not have the right to use, or use the Service in a way that infringes copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy, publicity or voice rights. For example, do not dub, transcribe, separate vocals from, or create a voice cover of a copyrighted song or video unless you own it, have a license, or your use is otherwise permitted by law (such as fair use), and do not use Outputs to pass off someone else’s work as yours. Rights holders can use our Copyright & DMCA Policy.
8. Spam, robocalls and telemarketing
AI voices are regulated in calling and messaging. In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission has confirmed that calls using AI-generated voices are “artificial or prerecorded voice” calls under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). You may not use Outputs to:
- make robocalls or send prerecorded or artificial-voice messages without the prior express consent (or prior express written consent, for telemarketing) required by the TCPA and similar laws;
- call numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry or a company-specific do-not-call list in violation of law, or ignore opt-out requests;
- spoof caller ID or hide your identity, or omit identification and opt-out information required by law; or
- send unsolicited bulk messages (spam) by phone, voicemail, messaging apps, email or social media.
Using Speechma voices for your own business phone greeting, on-hold message or IVR menu is fine. Mass outbound calling is your legal responsibility, and you must follow all applicable laws, including state laws on AI disclosure in calls.
9. Security, scraping and abuse of the Service
To keep Speechma free and fast for everyone, you may not:
- create, upload or distribute malware, viruses or other harmful code, or use the Service to attack any system;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach or bypass security or authentication measures (if you find a security issue, please report it responsibly to contact@speechma.com);
- use bots, scripts, crawlers or other automated means to access the tools, scrape the voice catalog or content, or submit generations, except through the official Speechma API under its terms;
- circumvent usage limits, file-size limits or security codes, including by using captcha-solving services, rotating IP addresses or proxies, or multiple devices to get around them;
- overload, disrupt or interfere with the Service, its infrastructure or other users;
- resell, rebrand or offer the free tools as your own service, or wrap them in another app or website; or
- use the Service or its Outputs to train, test or improve a competing AI voice product in breach of these rules, or attempt to extract our models or underlying systems.
10. Your responsibilities when publishing outputs
Following this AUP does not end when you press Download. When you publish or distribute Outputs, you are responsible for:
- following the rules of the platform you publish on, including any requirement to label realistic AI-generated or altered content (for example, YouTube, TikTok and Meta platforms have synthetic media disclosure rules);
- disclosing that a voice is AI-generated where the law, an advertiser or a reasonable listener would expect it, especially in advertising, news-style content and anything involving a real person’s voice;
- complying with advertising and consumer protection laws, such as the Federal Trade Commission’s rules on endorsements and deceptive practices; and
- checking transcripts, translations and dubbed audio for accuracy before relying on them.
11. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations of this AUP and take any action we consider appropriate, including:
- refusing to process a request or blocking specific content;
- limiting, throttling or blocking access from a device, network or IP address;
- suspending or terminating Speechma API accounts;
- preserving relevant information and reporting conduct to law enforcement, regulators or NCMEC where required or appropriate; and
- cooperating with rights holders, victims and platforms to address harmful content.
We may act without prior notice where we believe it is needed to prevent harm. Because we do not store your uploads or results, we often depend on reports from users and the public to learn about misuse, so please tell us when you see it.
12. Reporting misuse
If you believe someone has used Speechma to impersonate you, clone your voice without permission, deceive others or create harmful or illegal content, email contact@speechma.com with the subject “Report Misuse.” Include links or copies of the content, where it was published, and why you believe it was created with Speechma. We review every report, and we prioritize reports involving minors, fraud, threats and election-related deception. Copyright complaints should follow our Copyright & DMCA Policy.
If you are in immediate danger or are the victim of a crime, contact local law enforcement first. In the U.S., you can also report fraud to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
13. Changes and questions
We may update this AUP as technology, laws and risks evolve; the “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. If you have a question about whether a project is allowed, email contact@speechma.com before you start. We would much rather help you get it right.
