Can AI translate a video into another language?
Yes. An AI video translator listens to the speech in your video, translates what was said, and replaces the speech with a new voice in the target language, so viewers hear your video in their language instead of reading subtitles. Speechma returns a finished MP4 video with the translated speech, which you can post as is or bring into your editor.
This page is about the translation decision: which language to pick, how to prepare the source video so the translation is accurate, and how to check the result before you publish. If you want the technical feature list, see our AI dubbing page, and for the concepts behind it read what is AI dubbing.
Which languages can I translate my video into?
Speechma can dub into 9 languages. Here is who you reach with each, which helps you decide where to start.
| Target language | Who it reaches | Example use |
|---|---|---|
| Spanish | Spanish-speaking audiences in the US, Mexico, Latin America and Spain | A US home-services company posting the same how-to in English and Spanish |
| French | France, Quebec, Belgium, Switzerland and much of West Africa | A Shopify brand testing Canadian ads |
| Hindi | India’s largest language audience and the Indian diaspora | An online tutor expanding a coding course |
| Italian | Italy and Italian speakers worldwide | A food creator sharing recipe videos |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | Brazil, one of YouTube’s biggest audiences | A gaming channel launching a second-language channel |
| English (US or UK) | Global English audiences | Translating a Spanish or Japanese video for American viewers |
| Japanese | Japan | An indie game studio localizing a trailer |
| Chinese | Mandarin-speaking audiences | A product team localizing a demo for trade shows |
Upload requirements: MP4, MOV or WEBM files up to 60 MB, or a direct link ending in .mp4, .webm or .mov. Short clips dub fastest.
How do I translate a video with AI?
- Add the videoUpload your file (up to 60 MB) or paste a direct video link. Short clips dub fastest, so export a shorter clip from your editor if the video is long.
- Tell it the original languageChoose the language spoken in the source video (12 are supported, including English, Hindi, Spanish, German, Korean and Arabic) so the speech is understood correctly.
- Pick the target languageSelect one of 9 languages: English (US), English (UK), Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Japanese or Chinese.
- Choose a voiceLeave it on Automatic for a natural native voice, or open More options to pick a specific voice for that language and set the speech speed (0.8x to 1.25x).
- Generate and reviewEnter the security code and generate. Watch the result from start to finish, then download it as an MP4.
How do I get the most accurate video translation?
Translation quality depends mostly on how clearly the original speech can be heard and understood. A few minutes of prep makes a big difference:
- Start with clean dialogue. Loud music under the voice confuses speech recognition. If your video has a heavy soundtrack, lower it in your editor before exporting the version you translate.
- Avoid slang and inside jokes. “That’s a slam dunk” may translate literally. Plain phrasing translates cleanly.
- Say numbers and names clearly. Prices, dates and brand names are where translations most often slip.
- Keep on-screen text in mind. The AI translates speech, not text burned into the picture. Plan separate graphics for titles or captions.
- Ask a native speaker to spot-check. Even a two-minute review from a bilingual friend or customer catches awkward phrasing before your audience does.
Subtitles or a translated voice?
Subtitles are fine for viewers who are already watching closely, but many people watch on phones with one eye on something else. A translated voice lets them follow along without reading. A common approach for US creators: publish the dubbed version for the new audience, and add captions with a subtitle generator for viewers who watch muted.
