Voice changer vs. text to speech: when to use which
Text to speech reads a script; an AI voice changer converts a performance. That difference matters. If you want a sarcastic pause, a laugh in the middle of a sentence or a line delivered under your breath, it is far easier to act it out yourself than to describe it in punctuation. Tips for the most convincing result
- Record clean. Turn off fans and music, and keep your phone or mic about a hand’s width from your mouth. Background noise gets converted too.
- Match the energy. A calm target sample paired with a shouted source recording can sound strained. Pick a target clip with a similar mood.
- Use a single speaker in both files. Two voices talking over each other confuse the conversion.
- Split long sessions. For a 20-minute podcast, convert it in 5-minute sections and join them in Audacity, GarageBand or your video editor.
- Keep a test line. Before converting a whole file, try one 20-second clip to check that the target voice suits your delivery.
