How does an AI beat maker work?
You describe the beat in words and the AI produces a full instrumental to match. On Speechma, open Music Studio, type a prompt such as “hard trap beat, 140 BPM, rolling hi-hats, 808 slides, dark piano melody, instrumental”, pick a length, and generate. In a minute or so you have a beat to rap, sing or freestyle over.
It is a quick way to sketch ideas, practice writing, or get a beat for a TikTok or a school project without opening a DAW. Producers also use it for inspiration: generate a few takes, pick a groove, then rebuild or flip it in FL Studio, Ableton or Logic.
What BPM and prompt should I use for each genre?
Start from these recipes. Changing the BPM or one instrument gives you a fresh beat each time.
| Genre | Typical BPM | Prompt recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Boom bap | 86–95 | “90s boom bap beat, 90 BPM, dusty sampled drums, jazzy piano loop, deep upright bass, head-nod groove, instrumental” |
| Trap | 130–150 | “Dark trap beat, 140 BPM, rolling triplet hi-hats, booming 808 with slides, eerie bell melody, instrumental” |
| Drill | 140–145 | “Drill beat, 142 BPM, sliding 808 bass, sharp off-beat snares, cold string melody, menacing, instrumental” |
| R&B | 65–80 | “Smooth R&B beat, 72 BPM, warm electric piano, finger snaps, soft 808, late-night romantic mood, instrumental” |
| West Coast | 90–100 | “West Coast G-funk beat, 95 BPM, whiny synth lead, funky bass, laid-back drums, sunny California vibe” |
| Afrobeats | 100–115 | “Afrobeats instrumental, 105 BPM, log drums, shakers, bright guitar riff, bouncy and danceable” |
| Reggaeton | 88–100 | “Reggaeton beat, 94 BPM, dembow rhythm, punchy kick, tropical synth pluck, party energy, instrumental” |
| Lofi hip hop | 70–90 | “Lofi hip hop beat, 82 BPM, swung drums, Rhodes chords, vinyl crackle, relaxed, instrumental” |
How do I make a beat step by step?
- Pick a genre and BPMUse the table above. If you already have lyrics, tap the rhythm of your bars and match the tempo.
- Write the promptName the drums, the bass, one melody instrument and a mood. Always add “instrumental”.
- Add a reference track (optional)Upload a beat you own whose sound you like. The first 30 seconds are used, and the new beat borrows its sound and feel.
- Choose the lengthPick 2 to 3 minutes for a song, longer for freestyle practice. Download WAV with the arrow next to Download if you will mix it.
- Generate and compareEnter the 5-digit code. Make several takes and keep the one with the best groove.
- Write and recordWrite bars with the lyrics generator as a starting point, or record your own vocals over the beat.
How do I write a better beat prompt?
Vague prompts give generic beats. Specific prompts give character. Compare “a hip hop beat” with “a gritty New York boom bap beat at 92 BPM with a chopped soul vocal sample, crunchy snare and a walking bass line.” The second one tells the AI about era, drum sound, bass movement and texture.
- Describe the drums first. Drums define the genre: “rolling hi-hats”, “crunchy snare”, “four-on-the-floor kick”, “dembow rhythm”.
- Name one lead sound. Bell, piano, flute, guitar or synth. One clear melody leaves space for vocals.
- Set the mood with places and times. “Late night in Atlanta”, “summer block party”, “rainy Seattle drive”.
- Ask for structure. “Intro, 16-bar verse loop, hook section with bigger drums” helps for songs.
- Do not name real artists. Describe the sound instead. Your beat should be your own.
Want vocals on your beat?
Turn the idea into a full track with the AI song generator: describe the same style, add your lyrics, and it will generate a song with sung or rapped vocals. Or start from a topic on the AI rap generator page. Already recorded a song and want just the instrumental back? The vocal remover separates vocals from the music.
